South West London
Clapham Common is one of London’s great open spaces and hosts skate/ BMX and music events each year with Clapham’s great pubs & restaurants nearby. For something more serene, the Peace Pagoda in Battersea Park by the Thames may take the sting out of London’s concrete tail or cool off at the Tooting Lido. Hip Brixton has colourful markets, great bars and clubs and tons of character. Genteel Wimbledon, home of the tennis competition, must be one of the few villages in the UK where you can pop to the local shops for a pint of milk and a Jil Sander outfit.

2009 marks the 250th anniversary of Scottish poet Robert Burns' birth. Burns was a poet and a lyricist and is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland.
The Burns Supper was started a few years after his death by a group of his friends; they held the supper to honour and remember Burns. The tradition caught on and the ritual of Burns Supper is now held all around the world.
His life and work will be celebrated throughout the year at many Burns-related events.
